Matthew 5:17-19

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets:  I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

My friends! I want you to ask yourselves  this question: Has the heavens and the Earth  passed away? If your answer to this question is “NO”
Then you know that the law was not nailed to the cross, but is still in effect today.

After earnestly praying, and asking God for understanding 1Timothy 4 God gave me the answer.  I did not hear a verbal voice, but I knew that it was God telling me what Paul was writing about.

I knew that when we write an essay we need a topic, a thesis sentence and a final statement.  Só, the first thing I needed to do was finding Paul's topic.  That was easy, for his topic is very clear: he is talking about Doctrines, good doctrines and doctrines that are not so good.

Verse 1:  "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils."

In this opening statement Paul gives a warning that in a latter time we will be witnesses of doctrines of the devil, and we should be careful of it.  Then he describes them in verses 2 and 3.

Verse 2.   "Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron."

Here Paul is definitely speaking of a group of people. Their doctrine is based on lies and hypocrisy.

Verse 3  "Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received, with thanksgiving of them which believe and knoweth truth.

Here Paul is speaking of a doctrine that forbids marrying.  They are also to abstain from meats.  Note that these meats, are to be received by them which believe and knows the truth.  Paul cannot be talking of flesh when he refers to meats he is refering to real truth, the Bible, because one doesn't need to know the truth in order to receive flesh. Another thing, you don't receive flesh, you eat it.  Só, this is definitely not flesh.  What else does Paul calls meat?  Let us read 1 Corinthians 3:1,2:

“And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able."

Meats, then, are the word of God.  Paul is referring in verse 3 of 1 Timothy 4 to a doctrine that abstains from the word of God.  The same doctrine that its priests cannot marry and that years ago forbade their members to read the Bible.  Now you might say—what about verses 4, and 5?  OK, let's examine verses 4, 5, and 6.  We cannot understand verses 4, and 5 without verse 6.Verses 4-6 says:

"For every creature of God is good"  (I believe that Paul is referring now to people, and not to animals,)  "And nothing to be refused,"  (I think that these were refers to men, and should not be ignored.)  "If it be received with thanksgiving:"  (Note again that he says received, not eaten.  If Paul were talking about food he would say eaten, not received)".  For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shall be a good minister of Jesus Christ.(Look, nobody can become a good minister of Jesus Christ by eating. It cannot be food what Paul is referring to, but the Word of God See now what he says at the end of the verse: Nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained".

For these reasons Peter wrote in 2 Peter 3:15, and 16, that Paul's writings were hard to be understood.  Look, when Paul speaks of food he uses the word  ‘eat’, not ‘receive’, as we see in Romans 14: 21, where he says; "It Is Good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor anything whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended or is made weak.”

The rest of the chapter is self explanatory;

6 “If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
11 These things command and teach.
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”

Yesterday a friend of mine took my sister to eat in a restaurant. My sister has been a vegetarian for many years and did not want to start eating meat again now. I don't know why, but my friend ordered a dish that contains meat and told my sister that the dish was all vegetarian. Só, my sister ate the food, but she noticed that mixed with the cabbage were little pieces of pork. She asked my friend why she had order this dish that contained meat. The friend, however, insisted that the little pieces of meat were some kind of vegetable.  My sister ate the meat, just to avoid a debate. When she got home, the first thing she told me was:  "I ate meat. I knew that those little pieces of meat were meat, but our friend said that they were vegetables, so I ate to avoid an argument."

"Wow!" I said. "Argument or not, I would not eat that."  That same friend did that same thing to me just a year ago, and she ate my food, because I would not eat it, even after she told me that they were vegetables. I am sorry that I had forgotten that.  I should have warned you about that.  I decided to call our friend and ask her why was she had my sister eating meat, knowing that my sister was a vegetarian.   She said to me: "I prayed for the food.  Therefore, the food was sanctified and it was good for her." Then I said:  "OK, if you pray for something, it becomes sanctified by God, am I right?" And she said: "O yes, everything I want to eat, I pray for it first, and it becomes sanctified by God."

Then I said:  "all right, I have a friend that is desperately trying to quit smoking.  I am going to call her, and tell her that she doesn't need to quit smoking at all.  All she needs to do is pray for her cigarettes before she smokes, and God will sanctify the cigarettes.  And if they are sanctified by God, they are not going to harm her at all." But she said: "NO!  IT IS NOT LIKE THAT.  God doesn't sanctify cigarettes, they are harmful to us." I said:  "Thank you, but if God doesn't sanctify cigarettes, then He doesn't sanctify pork either."

Paul is not contradicting God and saying that you can eat everything, and completely ignore God's instructions on Leviticus 11.  When Paul said: “For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused if it be received with thanksgiving" he could not be talking about food.  If that was the case, then I could eat everything: vultures, pork, snakes, spiders, flies, cockroaches, etc, etc.  No, my friend, Paul was not saying that at all. The Bible does not contradict itself.  God does not change—He is the same, today, yesterday, and forever.  When God said that pork was not good for food, He really meant that.

There was a Christian family in Brazil that ate pork, and the whole family died.  I am sure that they prayed before they ate the meat.  But the pork was infested with trichinosis, and they all died.  That prayer did not sanctify that pork, or that family would not have died.
Friends, if you believe in the Spirit of prophecy you will study the writings of Ellen G. White.  Here are some of her counsels about flesh as food in  Counsels on Diet and Foods, page, 373:

God gave our first parents the food He designed that the race should eat. It was contrary to His plan to have the life of any creature taken.  There was to be no death in Eden. The fruit of the trees in the garden, was the food that man's needs required. God gave man no permission to eat animal food until after the flood. Everything had been destroyed, because of the people's necessity God gave Noah permission  to eat of the clean animals, which he had taken with him  into the ark.  But animal food was not the healthiest article of food for man.  The people who lived before the flood ate animal food and gratified their lusts until their cup of iniquity was full, and God cleansed the earth of its  moral pollution by a flood.  Then the third dreadful curse rested upon the earth.  The first curse was pronounced upon the posterity of Adam and upon the earth, because of disobedience. The second curse came upon the ground after Cain slew his brother Abel.  The third most dreadful curse from God came upon the earth at the flood.

After the flood the people ate largely of animal food. God saw that the ways of man were corrupt, and that he was disposed to exalt himself proudly against his Creator and to follow the inclinations of his own heart. And He permitted that long-lived race to eat animal food to shorten their sinful lives. Soon after the flood the race began to rapidly decrease in size, and in length of years. Page 380.

Vegetables, fruits, and grains should compose our diet. Not an ounce of flesh meat should enter our stomachs.  Page 381.

Those who have received instruction regarding the evils of  the use of flesh foods, tea, and coffee, and rich and healthy food preparations, and who are determined to make a covenant with God by sacrifice, will not continue to indulge their appetite for food that they know to be unhealthy.  God demands that the appetite be cleansed, and that self-denial be practiced in regard to hose things, which are not good.

This is a work that will have to be done before His people can stand before Him a perfected people. Page 382

Those who indulge in meat eating, tea drinking, and gluttony ate sowing seeds for a harvest of pain and death. Page 383.

By the use of flesh meats the animal nature is strengthened and the spiritual nature weakened. MS 315 (1905)

The moral evils of a flesh diet are not less marked than are the physical ills.  Flesh food is injurious to health, and whatever affects the body has a corresponding effect on the mind and the soul.  Think of the  Cruelty to animals that meat eating involves, and its effect on those who inflict these cruelty and those who behold it. How it destroys the Tenderness with which we should regard these creatures of God. CD 383.

The common use of the flesh of dead animals has had a Deteriorating Influence upon the Morals, as well as the physical constitution.  Ill health in a variety of forms, if effect could be traced to the cause, would reveal the sure result of flesh eating. Those who use flesh meat disregard all the warnings that God has given concerning this question.  They have not the slightest excuse for eating the animal creation.  Many times when meat is eaten, it DECAYS in the stomach, and creates DISEASE.  CANCERS, TUMORS, and PULMONARY DISEASES ARE LARGELY CAUSED BY MEAT EATING." CD 385 "MANY DIE OF DISEASE CAUSED WHOLLY BY MEAT EATING;" CD 389.

It is impossible for those who make free use of FLESH MEATS to have an UNCLOUDED BRAIN and an ACTIVE INTELLECT."

My dear friend please read the whole book of "Counsels on Diet and Food" by Ellen G. White. The Lord tell us that it Is a sin not to know these things?  Page 18.
"It is as truly a SIN to violate the laws of our being as it is to BREAK THE TEN COMMANDMENTS." Page 20.

If His laws were NEVER VIOLATED, if all acted in harmony  with the divine will, HEALTH, PEACE, and HAPPINESS,  instead of misery and continual EVIL, would be the result."
Friends please, pray for knowledge, when you read the Word of God, don't forget to read 1 Timothy 4, and Leviticus 11.

The first commandment is:
Exodus 20:3
Thou  shall have no other gods before me”

For each commandment I will give a story to show how that
commandment is not kept,
and how we can avoid not to fall into the same mistake.

Aletter to a friend:

My dear friend, I am so sorry to hear about your discouragement.  You think that nobody likes you, and you don’t know why.  You are forgetting that they are just treating you the same way you treat them.  You said that some of your acquaintances are not very intelligent, and that makes you fill very uncomfortable with them.

You think of yourself as a very intelligent person. You even send me your  Mensa cards to prove to me how intelligent you are. I am sorry, but to me that doesn’t prove anything. You are forgetting that all intelligence comes from God. If God decided to withdraw His Spirit from you, you would be worse than a dog.  The only reason a person has intelligence is because God gives him a portion of His Spirit. If one person has more intelligence than another does, it is only because that person has more of God’s Spirit than the other person. I cannot see how one person can brag because he or she has more of God’s Spirit than another. That is absolutely uncalled for. I can prove to you what I mean. There is a story in the Bible of a man that was very intelligent, and that was because God placed His Spirit in him. His name is Bezaleel, and his story is found in Exodus 35:30-35.

“And Moses said unto the children of Israel, see the Lord hath called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, of the tribe of Judah; And He (God) hath filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.”

You see, how clear it is that God is the one who gives wisdom, or intelligence and how He said that He filled Bezaleel with His Spirit. So, for you to be concerned with who in your circle have more intelligence then another is really sad.

God will give anyone who ask Him for knowledge.  In James 1:5 He promise that He will give you wisdom.

In Philippians 4:13 He says that You can do anything you want through Christ.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

I believe that everything we do; is because God gave us the ability to do it. God gives away many gifts. But they are gifts. They are not something that
you could buy or choose. You cannot order God around.  If God takes away His Spirit from a person, that person will be nothing. Remember what happened to king Nebuchadnezzar when God took His Spirit out of him? If you don’t remember you should read it in your Bible, and see what happened to him.  Read Daniel 4:29-37

Anyway, I beg of you don’t put someone down if you think that they are not intelligent. They might have more intelligence than you. Just because their gift is different doesn’t mean that they are less intelligent.

Last Saturday someone called me a computer. That is the highest compliment I have ever received. I did not think that it should be for me because I cannot do anything if God does not use me. So the person should have told me that God is like a computer, not me. I said thank you to her, but the praises should go only to God. Even Jesus said that by himself he could do nothing, but the Father did all through Him.

“I can of mine own self do nothing; as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father , which hath sent me.” John 5:30

God has promised to give us anything we ask him. Your friend can be as intelligent as he wishes to be; all he needs to do is ask God. Here is a nice promise from God.

 “My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; if thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
Then shall thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous; He is a buckler to them that walk uprightly”. Proverbs 2:1-7.

Start reading the Proverbs, there are 31 of them, one for each day of the month. You will be amazed of what school it is in the Proverbs. I have read them daily for many years and I never cease to learn something new all the time. For instance I found out in the Proverbs that we are not to brag about ourselves.

“Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. Let another man praise thee, and not thine mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.” Proverbs 27:1,2.

When my children were little my husband and I helped them to memorize this verse, and if one of them started to brag we would say to them. “Remember what God told us in Proverbs 27; 2.? And they would say “oops! I am sorry.” Then my husband would say to them. “Never forget that self praise stinks.”

Today I can see that knowledge is a God to many people. I hope that you are not falling on that pass. I see many people showing more respect to an well-educated individual than to another less educated. This is not right, and it is not pleasing God to see people respecting one person over another. In God’s eyes we are all the same, because it is only His Spirit in the person that makes that person what he is. If a person wants for God to appreciate them more, they should keep his commandments, for that is the only thing we can do of ourselves. And even that we cannot do without His help. Just admit and realize that we are nothing without God.

To some people money is their God, to some food, and to some it is their education. I hope you are not falling into this trap. Don’t think that I am against education, I am all for it. But nothing can be before God, and only what He wants for me is what I want to have. When you realize these things you are going to treat people with respect regardless of what they are. The people are going to notice your change and everybody is going to like you much better.

Believe me, you will be surprised of how well liked you will be when you become a humble man. You are too proud. You think of yourself higher than everybody else; stop that, please, and be an imitator of Christ.

I know a man that used to brag about his little daughter when she was only three years old. He taught her the capitals of every country in the world, and he would have her display her knowledge of geography to the people. He totally forgot that God was the one giving her the intelligence. I don’t know why, but this little girl was hit by a car, and had brain damage, and never could speak again.

I saw a movie of Amadeus Mozart and in it another composer recognized that Mozart’s gift came from God. In the film this man said that he was angry with God for giving Mozart the gift that he wanted so badly.

I don’t believe that Mozart, Beethoven or any one of those so-called geniuses were genius at all, they were just an ordinary person that God chouse to write his music. They were not different from you or me. They were instruments in God’s hands to write music, that is all. The same goes to Leonardo Da Vince, Michael Angelo, Rembrant, Renoir, and all the other great men of history. They were all the same as you and me; the only difference is that they had more of the gifts that God gives to whom ever he will.

You certainly contradict yourself when on one breath you brag of how intelligent you are, and on another breath you say that you are suffering from paralysis of the brain.  How could a person suffer from paralysis of the brain, and be intelligent at the same time? That does not make since to me. I am positive that you don’t have paralysis of the brain, or any other mental disease. What you have is a need of recognition of God’s blessings. When you start doing all God’s will you will feel much better. Try it, and you will see if I am right or not.

Remember how you told me that the people in the church try to avoid you?  I love you in Christ that is why I am opening your eyes to the reason why they try to avoid you.  Nobody likes a person that brags and puts other people down. If you start to humble yourself, and be meek, you will be surprised of how many people will like you. I know that I already said that, but some things need to be repeated.    Have you read the book, “How to Make Friends?”  You really don’t need to read that book.  Just read the Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes, and there are all the laws of how to be a good friend.  Remember the golden rule; “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?” Put it into practice, and you will see the result. Here are ten rules of how to be a good Christian:

1.   Don’t ever tell a living soul in this world, that you are intelligent.

2.  Don’t ever find fault with an individual, or talk about another, because the        person listening is wondering if you are not giving them an indirect criticism.  They reason within themselves that you think of them the same as the person whom you are criticizing.

3.  Try to dress simply and not showy.  That too, makes people feel uneasy.

4.  Smile at people with the biggest smile you can give.

5.  Be extremely friendly even to strangers.  Remember the saying? A stranger is only a friend that I didn’t meet yet.”   Well! That should be for all of us.

6.  Bae happy even if you are sad. This is the 2nd most important of all rules.  You should have noticed that when people ask me; “How are you, Clelia?” that I always answered them: “Super!”  That is because I know that nobody likes to see a crabby face.   Just be happy all the time, even when you are not happy.  Jesus is your  friend, and you can be happy about that, I am.

7.  Learn to cast your burdens upon the Lord.  Let him do the worrying for you, and you be able to stay free from worring.

8.  Miss people with a genuine heart.  When you tell a person. “I missed  you.”  Say it from your heart.

9.  Never be a phony.  Nobody likes a phony.

10  Let the Holy Spirit lead you, and don’t try to lead the Holy Spirit. This is the most important rule of all.

My dear reader, whomever you are.  If you are having the same problems that my friend was having, try doing these things I mentioned.

Many years ago I had that same problem.  It seemed to me that nobody liked me.  Then I went to Camp meeting where Elder Glen Coon was the main speaker.  He told us somethings somewhat like these rules I just wrote.  I made a decision then that I was going to be happy no matter what, and I have done that, with God’s grace.  Of course there were times that circumstances were beyond my control, and I had to be sad.  For example, six years ago I lost my brother.  I didn't know how to give that burden to the Lord; And I cared it myself, but God healed my wound, and I became happy again.  Ever since I made that decision, I never once felt that people didn’t love me.  No matter where I go, I feel loved because if the people don’t love me, it doesn’t matter at all.  God loves me, and so does my guardian angel.  So my friends, I hope that I have been of help to you, and especially to my friend the one to whom I wrote these letter.
This Letter was written in 1997.

Exodus 20:4-6
“Thou shall not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is inthe water under the earth: Thou shall not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God
am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of
them that love me, and keep my commandments.”

The $120,00 dollar joke

 Proverbs 26:18-19
"As a mad man who cassteth firebrands arrows, and death, so is the man that deceiveth his neighbor, and say,I WAS JOKING."

Please tell me what is the difference between a joke and a lie?  I really think that most of the time they are one and the same.  Although, there are times when a person is really joking.  For example, last week I called a friend and her husband answered the phone.

I said: "May I speak with your wife?"

Him: -"I can't get my wife to the phone now; she is taking her monthly bath."

Me: --"You are pulling my leg, aren't you?"

Him: -"Yes I am, actually she bathes every day."

That was a real joke because he explained it to me immediately.  Can you imagine what I would be thinking if he didn't explain to me that he was joking?  Sometimes people make a joke about the truth because they are too shy to tell the truth.  And other times they say a joke because they are really lying.  These kinds of jokes don’t please God at all, and what about the damage caused by such jokes.

The $120.00 joke is a true story.  I am changing only their names.  Let's call them, Mary and John.

Mary and John lived in the same city and went to the same church.  After Mary's husband died, John began to court Mary, and called her on the phone almost every day.  After one year of the loss of her husband, John became very bold and proposed marriage to her.  For a year they lived and acted as real sweethearts.  One day John went to Mary's house and started to tell her what to do.  He commanded her to remove all her husband's photos off the wall.  Mary would have been glad to do that, but because of the way he commanded with so much authority, she rebelled and decided to deny his request.  John didn't like that at all, so he walked away from the house real angry.

Many times he had promised Mary to marry her after he retired.  And that suited Mary just fine because it would give her time to get over her love for her deceased husband.  Six years passed by, and one day Mary decided to call John and ask him about his promise :

Mary: --"Hi John! How are you?"

John: --"Mary!  What a wonderful surprise, how wonderful to hear your voice again!  I have been thinking of you very often.   Mary, I have never gotten over you.  Could you forgive me and start again where we left off?  I want to marry you, Mary.  What do you say?  I will buy a house in St. Petersburg, Florida, and we will move there.  Would you be willing to move there with me and marry me and be a devoted wife?  Please say yes."

Mary: --"Yes, I will be delighted to become your wife."

John: --"Are you going to be a devoted wife?"

Mary: --"Yes, John, I will be the most devoted wife that ever was."

John: --"Will you give me back rubs every day, and cook for me, and care for me,  and be patient with me?"

Mary: --"Yes, John. I will be all that."

John: --"Will you be satisfied with only a few intimate times, and have temperance even in that?  You know what I mean don't you?"

Mary: -"Yes John, I will have temperance even in sex, that is what you are talking about isn't it?"

John: -"When we get married, we must have temperance in sex, and in everything else also.  Is that alright with you?"

Mary: -"Yes, John."

John: -"Thank you Mary, you will never regret that, congratulations on your new husband."

Mary: -"Thank you too, congratulations on your new wife."

They called each other regularly for about three months.  Mary called all her relatives all over the country, and even overseas.  She told everybody that she was getting married.  She called John, and asked him in what church they were going to marry, and he said:

"Any church, except mine.  You see the people in my church are not very nice to me, so we will marry in the church of your choice, as long it is not my church.  OK?"

She said OK to him and began to make all the plans for the wedding.  She went to a store and bought $120.00 worth of material and lace for her dress that she would make it herself.  For three more months, she worked on her wedding gown.  She also asked her pastor if he would perform the mariadge.

The years passed by and John did not tell her when they would be mariead. But he continued to tell her that they would be married when he retired.

Finally, after many years, he called Mary and announced to her that he had just come back from his retirement party.  Mary decided that it was time then for them to set a date for their wedding, so she told him to set the date.

Mary: --"Alright John, you are retired now, so let's set a date?"

John: --"A date for what?"

Mary: --"For the wedding, of course."

John: --"Mary! I was joking.  I never planned to marry you.  The whole thing was a joke.  You don't think that I would marry you, do you?  You don't have any money, and I have a lot.  I will only marry a woman that has as much money as I have, or more.  Understand, a joke, nothing more than a joke.

That was the worse joke I had ever heard of.  I don't have to tell you how Mary felt after that.  But tell me, was that a joke or deliberate, vicious lying?  I don't believe that John will make it to heaven if he doesn't repent and ask Mary and the Lord to forgive him.  That joke costed  Mary $120.00 plus all her emotional disappointment.

MICAH 6:8, says:  "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good, and what the lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God."

For this man, money is his God.

The Third Commandment Of god is:

Exodus 20:7
“Thou shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless
that taketh his name in vain.”

The names are changed.

Renee had two sisters and two brothers, and they lived in a very large house with both parents. All the children were healthy, except for Renee.   She suffered from epilepsy.  Many times Renee was sent home from school because of her condition.  But Renee was very intelligent, and did well at school regardless of her health problems. At home, however, it was a different story.  She teased her sister and was mean to them.  Her parents did not punish her for fear that she would have a seizure.  Some times she would lie and say bad things to them, and still would not be scolded.

Renee’s parents died and Renee went to live with Linda, one of her sisters.
One day Linda had a dream that Renee had written a letter to her sister Sonia telling her that Linda had robbed her money and many other things from her.  She was lying about Linda because she wanted to go live with Sonia.  On the dream the Lord had told Linda to get the letter, and keep it from Sonia, to avoid her from unnecessary distress.

When Linda woke up the next day, she went to the mailbox, and sure enough: Renee’s letter was there.   She took the letter and placed it on a safe place. A whole year passed by, and Linda had forgotten the letter when one day she noticed that Renee was lying again.  That reminded her of the letter.  Quietly she went to her room and pull out the letter from her drawer.  She opened the letter and started to read it.  She was absolutely amazed that the letter said exactly what she saw in her dream.  She placed the letter in her pocket and went to see Renee.

Linda: “Renee, I heard that you said to someone that I stole your money, is that true?

Renee:  “I swear by the Bible, that I have never said such a lie to anybody.  As I said before I swear to that.”

Linda:  “Have you written to anybody about me?”

Renee:  “No!  I never spoke about you to one single soul.  I swear to that.”

Linda:  “Renee, I love you with all my heart, and I know that Jesus loves you too.  Did you know that when a person lies they cause a pain in the hands of Jesus?  If people loved Jesus like He loves them; nobody would lie.  Did you know that?”

Renee:  “I didn’t know that.  I never heard that before.  Why don’t the ministers preach that in their sermons?”

Linda:  “I am sure that the ministers preach that in their sermons.  Perhaps you just forgot.  Renee, it is very important that you tell me the truth.  Have you written to Sonia and tell her that I stole your money?”

Renee:“No!  I swear by—“

Linda:  “STOP!  Renee, please do not swear any more.  Please!”

Linda pull out the letter and showed it to Renee and said:  “See, Renee, you have been lying all this time to me and to Jesus.  Whenever you lie to a person you are lying to Jesus also.  How could you swear by the Bible in a lie?  How do you think Jesus feels now that you broke His third and ninth commandments?”

Renee:  “I feel very bad, do you think that Jesus will help me not to lie and swear anymore?  I hope that from now on I will tell only the truth.  Would you pray for me so I can tell only the truth?”

Linda:  “Of course, Renee, I will pray for you, but it is up to you to rebuke the Devil when he tempts you.  Whenever you are inclined to lie pray that the temptation be taken away from you, and Jesus will help you to overcome this horrible habit that you have of swearing and lying”.

Linda prayed for Renee and she noticed that Renee was trying really hard not to lie, and she quit all together her swearing.  Linda thought that her problems with Renee were over, but she was still on for a big surprise.   When Linda got sick and did not go to church, the church’s superintendent came over and told her all that she had heard, on how Linda treated Renee.   When Linda got well and went to church, she was shocked to see everybody cold to her.   Some people even remarked that she should be ashamed of herself for not loving her sister Renee.  Linda felt really bad because she thought that her friends should know her to be better than that.  Linda continued going to church, but she felt so isolated from her friends that she decided to stay home and not go to church.  When Saturday came, she was going to have worship at home.   However, she did not like staying home on the Sabbath, so she went to another church further away from her home, but were she felt welcomed.

Today Renee is a complete changed person, and Linda returned to her home church. The damage that was done is still there, but Linda decided to ignore it, and finally she feels welcomed in her church.

In Matthew 5:33-37 the Lord says: “Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s Throne; Nor by the earth; for it is His footstool; neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.  But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”

Friend, if you have a problem with the third commandment as Renee did, let God help her, He will help you also.  Don’t let this keep you away from entering the pearly gates.
