Answered Prayers

Clélia Brito

"Ask and it will be given you; seek, and you shall find: knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7).

This chapter records a few of my prayers that were answered the fastest.

Last night I was looking for my little scissors and couldn’t find them. God said in Matthew that if you seek, you shall find. So I said to God,, “Lord, You promised me that if I asked You to find something that I would find it, so thank You Lord that I will find my scissors. Amen.”

When I opened my eyes I looked directly at the scissors on top of the table. I had looked there several times and simply had not seen them because there were many things on the table. After I prayed, I found them right away. That had to be an answer to my prayer.

I have done that many times, especially when I lose my keys. There again I pray that little prayer and I find them right away. Some times it takes a little longer, but I always get an answer.

Many year ago my mother came from Florida to spend some time with me in Willow Springs, Illinois, a suburb near Chicago. At that time we were having camp meeting in our school of that state, it was called Broadvew Academy. So I went to camp meeting with my mother and the children. When we got there, we rented a room in the girl’s dormitory. Pastor Glen Coon, the main speaker, was teaching the ABC new method of praying. I had never heard about that idea before. In this method of praying, we give God back his own words, claiming His promises. The Bible is full of them, in a total of 3573, much more than one a day. He began with Isaiah 55:11,

"So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it,”

Them he went on teaching us all the promises.

"A"  is for ask, Matthew 21:22 “(A) And all things, whatsoever you ask, (B) believing, (C) you shall receive,(or CLAM),”
So here in Matthew 21:22 we have the whole method of the ABC prayer. Other verses for this is in:

Matthew 7:7 "A" “Ask, and it shall be given you, seek, and you shall find, knock, and it shall be opened unto you."

B” Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say unto you, What things so ever you desire when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.“

C” John 11:41 “Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up His eyes, and said, Father, I thank Thee that Thou hast heard me.”

The C is for claim, or receive, and when you receive you say thank you. Jesus said thank you to the father before He received the gift because He new that the Father had heard Him. And after words only, was that He said in verse 43 “Lazarus, come forth,” You see, we have to do the same as Jesus did, and we mast say thank You Lord, before we have received the answer, just as Jesus did.

There is one promise in Philippians that almost all needs.

Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Getting back to my story, of my mother and I.

One very warm day we went to the bedroom to rest, and I wanted to take a nap because I was very tired. My mother wasn’t tired at all, and she wanted to talk to me. She was standing by the window, and she was looking out side at the school’s farm in the distance and she said: “Clélia, you said that those things out there were cows; they’re not cows. They’re stones. Cows move around, and those things out there don’t move.” I new my mother, and when mother said that this was black, it had to be black no matter of what color it was. Now I knew that I was in trouble. If I said they were cows, mother was going to argue with me. If I said they were stones, I would be lying. I needed help, so I turned to God, and prayed my first ABC prayer. I had forgotten all the texts Pastor Coon had used, so I said:

“ Lord, I don’t know a text for my need, but I know You gave a specific promise for every need. So please use the promise that fits my need and let my mother knows that those things out there are cows. Thank You, Lord, for answering my prayer. Amen.” I jumped out of bed to see how God was going to show my mother that those things were really cows. I ran to the window, but I was too late. My mother was exclaiming,

“Oh! They are cows. One of them just moved from one place to anther.”

I didn’t see the cow move, but my mother did, and that was all that mattered.

After that, I became a fervent believer of the ABC’s of prayer taught by elder Glenn Coon.

In November of 2002, my husband and I received a foreclosure legal note in the mail letting us know that our land in Brazil was going to be placed for sale if we did not pay what we owed in the land. We had not made the payments because of a financial difficulty we were going through. My husband begged me to borrow some money and go to Brazil to make the necessary payments so we would not lose the land. I said no to my husband, because we were already in debt here, and I did not want to get deeper in debt. But my husband did not want to lose the land after we had put so much in it, and begged me for help in the matter.

That is when I turned to God. I said to Him. “Lord, I don’t want to go to Brazil and have to borrow more money when we already are in debt. So, Lord, if You want me to go to Brazil, please show me in some form that You want me to go there and rescue the land. Thank You Lord, Amen.”

After a few days, I went to the Flea Market to do some shopping, and when I arrived there I started to walk in front of many sale tents, then suddenly I had an idea. I did not look to my right or to my left when I told God:

“All right Lord, if You want me to go to Brazil, show me now by letting me find a blender real cheap, so I can take my blender to Brazil and leave this one here for my husband Azenilto.” I forgot to say thank You to the Lord, and immediately turned my face to the left and said to the first salesman I saw: “Do you have a blender?” He replied: “Yes I do, and I will sell it to you for two dollars.” I had bought several blenders in this same Flea Market, and I always had to pay more then ten dollars for a blender. I had paid fifteen dollars for the last one I bought there. Now this man would sell me his blender for only two dollars! That had to be God telling me to go to Brazil. I bought the blender and called it the talking blender. Needless to say, I went to Brazil and paid off the land. Only because God had answered my prayer one more time.

Sometimes God answers me when I didn’t even ask Him. After staying four months in Brazil building the little church and my house, I had to return to the States. I started to think that would be wonderful if I could buy a big dog to leave there to watch the premises. But I had a real problem on that, for the big dogs were sold in the central market in downtown of Belo Horizonte, and that required a car for to bring the dog home. But I didn't have a car, and none of my friends would have a big dog in their car.

I did not say one thing to the Lord about my desire, but God knew what was in my heart and answered to my thoughts. I was standing at the bus stop to wait for a bus, when one of my workers walked by with a huge dog. I could not talk to him, for he did not notice me there, but when he came to my house the next time, I told him that I had seen him with his dog. He asked me if I wanted to see his dog again. Of course I said yes.

Several days later he brought the dog for me to see. I loved his dog immediately.

So I said to him: “Would you part with your dog, and sell it to me?” He answered that only if he could go visit the dog every day. I said that he could, and I bought his dog.

Then I thank God for sending a big dog to me, even though I didn’t ask Him. But God solved my transportation problem, and brought the dog right to my house.

What loving God we have, that even gives a dog to a person. By the way, my dog’s name is Sansão, Portuguese for Samson.

But there are conditions for our prayers to be answered. I don’t claim to be holy, because God answers so much my prayers. But I do try not to hold iniquity in my heart, for I know that God does not answers prayers if we hold iniquity in our hearts. This is found in Psalms 66:18.

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:”

But what can we do not to have iniquity in our hearts? The Lord teaches that too to us also.

In Palms 55:22 He says:

“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

But, many will think that by casting their burden to the Lord their iniquity is not transferred to the Lord, so how could that deliver one from having iniquity in their heart?

My friend, that does deliver us from keep the iniquity in our hearts.

Let me tell of one iniquity that I gave to the Lord, and it turned out to be a blessing to me. When I went to Brazil to save our land the first time in the year 2002, two boys assaulted me in the street near my house, and ran away with my purse, carrying all my money, and all my documents, both Brazilian and American. I was devastated at first, and did not know what to do. The neighbors were watching me when I was coming back home from the city, and had seen the whole thing and identified the perpetrators. So, they had already called the police even before I got home. The police went to the boy’s house, and recovered my purse with all the money, and all my documents. But that did not take away my anger.

I asked God to take that burden out of my heart, and He did it. I met the thief in the street after he had gotten out of jail, and I said to him: “I want you to know that I forgave you.” So, a few weeks later he tested me to see if he was really forgiven, and he came to my house and asked me to hire him to work for me in my construction of the little church. I hired him with one condition, that he would not enter my house and scare me.

He agreed to that and I hired him. Today this boy has given his heart to God, and is one of my best workers in the construction.

Another verse very good to help in not keeping iniquity in the heart, is Philippians 4:4-9.

Phi 4:4:  "Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice."

Phi 4:5  "Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand."

Phi 4:6  " Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."
Phi 4:7 "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Phi 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Many wonderful promises are found in Psalms 37

A promises for food, verse 3, and a promise for a single person to find a spouse, verse 4

Verses 3-7

Psalms 37:3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

Psalms 37:4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Psalms 37:5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Psalms 37:6And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

Psalms 37:7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him:

In verse 7, God tells us to give Him time, because His promises are given on His time.

I prayed for a husband for 26 years before He gave me a one. But He did, and now I am very happy that God answered that prayer also.

A promises for healing: Psalm 103:1-3

Ps 103:1

Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

A promise for a broken heart: Isaiah 26:3, 4

Thou wil keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Trust ye in the Lord forever: for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

Try putting it in the first person: Isaiah 26:3, 4

Thou will keep me in perfect peace, for my mind is stayed on thee: because I trust in thee.

I will trust in the Lord forever: for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

More promises for all our needs: Mt 6:25-34

Mt 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Mt 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Mt 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

Mt 6:28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

Mt 6:29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Mt 6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Mt 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

Mt 6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

Mt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Mt 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
